Primary Sources - Background Research: 2. 1984

This was a preliminary work in progress for  the Primary Sources series.I considered making it as a black and white drawing but exprimented with some glazes from a pottery in the Yorkshire Art Space Society in Sheffield, where the potter John Mitchell became a considerable influence on the processes of my output at that time. The 'Minoan Cultural imagery' that figured  as inspiration  in an elemental way in the work seemed to be in danger of influencing me to focus purely on the 'formal' aesthetics of the work, whilst I reamined more interested in the potential content of what that particular matriarchal culture had to offer contemporary feminism thinking.
